How to get more people to know, like, and trust you through email? Well, there is no “magic bullet,” but there are definitely some things you can do to keep your customers coming back to spend money with you.
Email marketing, unlike most marketing strategies, is kind of personal because you are able to send emails directly to individuals who have given you their email addresses. It means that you now have a chance to build a close relationship with your customers and potential customers whom you may have otherwise lost complete contact with.
Keep in mind that as you strive to grow you mailing list and fill it up with happy, repeat customers, some of your competitors are also doing the same. This means that you should put a little extra fuel into your campaigns to insure the best results.
Therefore, one of the most important aspects of email marketing is giving your subscribers something of value on a consistent basis. This could include helpful hints and tips related to your industry, instructional tutorial videos related to your industry, or simply great information that they would find useful.
While sending out promotional offers is good from time to time, the real power lies in your ability to make your list know, like, and trust you by giving them something they want to read about. Once you do that, the possibilities are endless as you will eventually have a list of loyal customers who look forward to seeing your next email.
Once you get to that level, the increased sales and profits are inevitable. Many businesses make the mistake of spamming their email list with constant promotional emails. Instead, keep them engaged with awesome content that they can’t wait to share with their friends, family, and colleagues – which instantly creates a viral marketing funnel for you. YES!
In any business, it is vital that you identify your competitors, especially those that are fighting for the same local market as you. Although you can't come right out and ask the owner what they are doing, you can take a really close look at their email marketing activities.
Perhaps the most important thing you should do is figure out exactly “how” they are getting people to opt-in to their email list. Do they have a great giveaway in exchange for email addresses? If so, what are they giving away? Giving away something of value – such as a special coupon offer or free report – has proven to work extremely well for getting opt-ins. It is important that you also opt-in to their mailing list yourself. This is not unethical; it is just an important part of doing your competitive research.
By opting into their lists, you will be able to see exactly what type of email messages they are sending out to their subscribers. Pay close attention to the process once you opt-in: Did you receive an immediate email after you opted-in? If so, what was in that email? When did you receive the next email? What was in that email? Also take note of the type of offers they send out, their subject lines, and how their emails are laid out.
Of course, the idea is NOT to get into their funnel just to copy what they are doing. In fact, many of your competitors could be doing things all wrong. So you definitely should not copy what they are doing. The idea is to see how it flows as well as what they are offering, which will help you build an even stronger and more effective email marketing campaign.
Competition research is more than just a way to see what your competitors are doing; it is a great way to help you create strategies that will keep your local customers coming back to you instead of them.

If you haven’t started an email marketing campaign, it is never too late. You can easily start a campaign within a couple of days and have your local competitors wondering how you’re stealing their business so fast. Email marketing is not as wide as other marketing strategies, so it won't take long to get a grasp of your strategy.
It is important that you know where your email marketing campaign stands prior to devising a plan to beat your competitors in getting more customers. Many business owners concentrate on their competition so much that they forget to monitor their own progress. You should not be obsessed with your competitor; instead, you should use their information to better your own business. This will only happen effectively if you understand your position in the world of email marketing.
If you have started to build a list, take a look at your emailing list and see how many people you have. How are you keeping track of this list? Do you have automated systems up online that are taking email addresses for you? Or are you having your customers write their email addresses down on a notebook until you get around to adding them to your database?
If all of that sounded foreign to you... you might want to take a second to click around Mailchimp.com and see how easy it can be to store email addresses in lists for email campaigns!
